Benjamin Franklin was so fond of the juice, he even published instructions on how to turn the wild meadow grapes of the new country into wine. So, as you toast to the nation’s birth this weekend, raise a glass with one of these red, white or blue wines from the fruits of Indiana.

Red:Orchestra Red ($10.73), Easley Winery, 205 N. College Ave.; local retailers. Similar to a merlot or cabernet, but with a softer finish.

White:Pinot grigio ($10-$12.50), Oliver Winery, Bloomington; local retailers; www .oliverwinery.com. Crisp, with lemon, lime and citrus flavors.

Blue:Blueberry wine ($11.95), Butler Winery, Bloomington.; www.butlerwinery .com; most Marsh Marketplace stores; 21st Amendment, 5561 N. Illinois St. Sweet and tart, but not syrupy; made from blueberries grown in Plymouth.
