The Top 10 Live is a collaborative effort between Indy.com and Indianapolismusic.net

1. Los Lonely Boys & Los Lobos

7:30 p.m. Aug. 9, $28.50, Murat Egyptian Room, 502 N. New Jersey, (317) 615-1500.

Teaming up for "The Brotherhood Tour," Los Lonely Boys (right) and Los Lobos are set to deliver a night of south-of-the-border-influenced rock. Los Lobos came out of East L.A. and gained prominence with the release of 1984's "How Will the Wolf Survive?" Los Lonely Boys won audiences with their 2004 single "Heaven." The trio of Texas-born brothers released their latest album, "Forgiven," in July.

2. Tapes 'N Tapes w/ Win With Willard & The Broderick

9 p.m. Aug. 9, $12, Radio Radio, 1119 E. Prospect. St. (317) 955-0995.

The phenomenon of the "blog band" is relatively new. Blog bands are those fortunate groups that first catch the ear of music bloggers and springboard on to larger success. Tapes 'N Tapes got such a boost and is now a heralded up-and-coming indie rock act. Compared favorably to indie legends the Pixies and Pavement, the Minneapolis-based group's sound ranges from bluesy guitar rock to a more quirky lo-fi style.

3. 'A Prairie Home Companion'

7:30 p.m. Aug. 13, $34 and $39, Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th St., www.in.gov/statefair/fair.>

The long-running public-radio show returns to the State Fair on its "Live Rhubarb Tour." The concert re-creates the radio broadcast, complete with the music and humor that define the show. Host Garrison Keillor describes it as "the show I'd do if I could only do one more show."

4. Daughtry w/ Virgin Millionaires

7:30 p.m. Aug. 9, $39.50-$59.50 Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th St., www.in.gov/statefair/fair

Chris Daughtry proved you don't have to win "American Idol" to be a successful singer. He parlayed his fourth-place finish into chart-topping success as frontman for his self-named band. Indy's own rock-stars-in-training, Virgin Millionaires, look to win over new fans in the opening slot.

5. Amos Lee w/ Dayna Kurtz

7:30 p.m. Aug. 9, $24, The Vogue, 6259 N. College Ave., (317) 259-7029.

Amos Lee's music reveals touches of soul ballads, country folk, acoustic jazz, and straightforward pop. It's no wonder he's earned critical comparison to artists ranging from John Prine to Bill Withers and has toured with Bob Dylan and Merle Haggard. Lee's latest album, "Last Days at the Lodge," debuted in the Top 30 of the Billboard charts earlier this year. Read an interview with Amos Lee at www.indy.com.

6. Grace Potter & the Nocturnals w/ Pennycuff & Win With Willard

7:30 p.m. Aug. 7, free (ticket required), Birdy's Bar & Grill, 2131 E. 71st St., (317) 254-8971.

Singer Grace Potter fronts her backing band The Nocturnals from behind guitars, the Hammond organ and electric piano. No matter her instrument of choice, the group delivers a soul- and blues-influenced version of pop that's earned comparisons to Norah Jones and Bonnie Raitt.

7. Carrie Underwood with Keith Anderson

7:30 p.m. Aug. 8, $40.50-$75.50, Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th St., www.in.gov/statefair/fair

With more than 10 million albums sold, a dozen hit singles, and multiple Grammys under her belt, Carrie Underwood has a strong claim as most successful "American Idol" winner. The artist naturally gravitated toward country, but has had success on the pop charts as well. Along the way she's also reached the level of celebrity where her dating habits are front-page tabloid news.

8. Roy Clark

8 p.m. Aug. 9, $27, Little Nashville Opry, Nashville, Ind., (812) 988-2235.

We can't explain it. Maybe our Top 10 Live voters were overcome by some odd "Hee Haw" nostalgia. Maybe they felt this list needed a solid infusion of good, clean, Branson, Mo.,-approved entertainment. Whatever the reason, Roy Clark scores a slot this week. The country musician is as well-known for his cornball TV comedy roles as his virtuoso musicianship on guitar and banjo.

9. Robert Cray

8:30 p.m. Aug. 11, $27, Music Mill, 3720 E. 82nd St., (317) 841-1850.

Along with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Cray infused life into the blues guitar in the 1980s. Inspired by John Lee Hooker and Albert Collins, Cray made his biggest impact with his 1986 album "Strong Persuader" and its hit single, "Smokin' Gun." Cray's career also has one little-known trivia footnote: He had an uncredited role in "Animal House" as the bassist for Otis Day and the Knights.

10. Mayhem Festival with Slipknot and Disturbed

2 p.m. Aug. 13, $25.25-$49.75, Verizon Wireless Music Center, 12800 E. 146th St., Noblesville, (317) 776-8181.

With local high schools back in session, don't be shocked to see carloads of kids hightailing it out of school parking lots to head to this show as soon as the day's final bell rings. The three-stage, 14-band event features bands that live on the extreme side of heavy metal. Slipknot, Disturbed, DragonForce and Mastodon share the bill on the main stage.

I can't believe this list!!!!!!!!!! It's awful. It would be safe to say that Helen Keller would not have written such a terrible list. Forgetting Radiohead? G-Love? John Butler Trio? The dude that constantly is banging on trashcans in Broadripple has a better act than Daughtry. Los Lonely Boys, isn't that spanish for 1 hit wonder? Or is it Spanish for "I better not exclude the bilingual band or else someone might think I have the ability to listen!" Summed up in one word......boo. Give me this guys job, and I would actually go to the concerts rather than pulling hair from my privates and letting that make up my mind.

Both Radiohead and G-Love were in Top Ten Live last week oneofthecriq. You can see that here.

On another note, to get a taste of some of this week's upcoming concerts, here are a couple vids:

I personally can't wait for tomorrow night's Robert Cray show. The last time I saw him live was 10 years ago at The Vougue. "Young Bob" is criminally underrated!

As much as pulling hair from my privates sounds like a good time, do yourself a favor and read the list every week. Every act you mention was on the previous week's list.

Also, FWIW, lots of folks vote on this list. I'm just the messenger.

Summed up in one word...eh, why take the low road...
