The Top 10 Live is a collaborative effort between Indy.com and Indianapolismusic.net

1. Midwest Rockabilly Fest

7 p.m. June 28, $10, Radio Radio, 1119 E. Prospect. St. (317) 955-0995.

Local rockabilly fans must have been disappointed when the 2008 Rockabilly Rebel Weekend was canceled for financial reasons. Not one to let down the fans, Radio Radio put together a worthy replacement with Saturday's Midwest Rockabilly Fest. The event brings together such Radio Radio mainstays as Bigger Than Elvis and Mandy Marie and the Cool Hand Lukes with other acts, such as Art Adams, the Swing Rays and Jerry King and the Rivertown Ramblers.

2. Susan Cowsill

8 p.m. June 28, $10, Indy Hostel, 4903 Winthrop Ave., (317) 727-1696.

For all of the recording and touring Susan Cowsill has done, it's hard to believe that she's just now releasing her first solo album. She brings her rootsy influences and songwriting skill to the Indy Hostel, where fans can experience her new material in a listening room perfectly suited for such music.

3. Steve Miller Band with Joe Cocker

8 p.m. June 28, $13.50 to $118.50, Verizon Wireless Music Center, 12800 E. 146th St., Noblesville, (317) 776-8181.

It just wouldn't be summer without a visit by the Steve Miller Band. You already know the hits, and the band doesn't stray far from its successful formula. For this tour, Joe Cocker opens, touring behind his latest album "Hymn For My Soul," a collection of covers that includes songs from Stevie Wonder, George Harrison and Bob Dylan.

4. The Madeira CD Release Party w/ Frankie Camaro's Atomic Bombay, The Melismatics and Reckless Edward

9 p.m. June 27, $6, The Melody Inn, 3826 N. Illinois St., (317) 923-4707.

The sound of surf guitar is instantly recognizable and coveted by a loyal fanbase. The Madeira puts a Middle Eastern twist on that sound, but it still retain the core elements of surf rock. The band is celebrating the release of its third album, "Carpe Noctem." The Madeira is joined by fellow surf guitar enthusiast Frankie Bombay and his new project, Atomic Bombay.

5. Filter with Opiate for The Masses

8:30 p.m. July 2, $20 advance, $22 day of, The Music Mill, 3720 E. 82nd St., (317) 841-1850.

Like his former boss Trent Reznor, Richard Patrick uses a group name (in this case, Filter) to brand the work performed by himself and a rotating cast of characters. Filter has enjoyed some commercial success with singles "Hey Man, Nice Shot" and "Take a Picture," but the new album, "Anthems For The Damned," contains a darker sound, no doubt influenced by such collaborators as Marilyn Manson's John 5 and Limp Bizkit's Wes Borland.

6. The Mudkids with the Twilight Sentinels

9 p.m. June 27, Spin Nightclub, 6308 Guilford Ave., (317) 257-0000.

Make time for this event, which brings together some of the best hip-hop Indianapolis has to offer. Twilight Sentinels return to town in the middle of a Midwest tour behind new album "Meanwhile ..... ." The Mudkids have been rocking mics and stages for more than 10 years, and always maintain a fresh and vital sound.

7. TLC 40th Anniversary Party

8 p.m. June 27, $25, Cloud Nine Bar and Restaurant, 5150 W. 38th St., (866) 819-7856.

For 40 years, WTLC-FM has represented the urban sound of Indianapolis. Even after a change in broadcast frequency and several revolving music trends, WTLC retains a strong voice in both music and community affairs. The station celebrates that voice Friday night with a visit from Angela Winbush, the acclaimed soul star, songwriter and producer.

8. Carolyn Wonderland with Javelinas

8 p.m. June 26, Sam's Saloon, 1640 E. Prospect St.

Carolyn Wonderland juggles a lot of roles: The bluesy singer-songwriter is just as liable to pick up a trumpet as she is to strum her guitar, and she blends several genres into her music. The Texas native is a powerful force live, and many important musicians -- B.B. King, Buddy Guy and the Allman Brothers -- have included her as their opening act.

9. Deep Blue Organ Trio, featuring Bobby Broom

June 27 and 28, $15, The Jazz Kitchen, 5377 N. College Ave., (317) 253-4900.

The organ trio has one of the most distinctive and celebrated sounds in jazz music. Add in the unmistakable guitar virtuosity of Bobby Broom, and you're guaranteed some of the best jazz in town.

10. Edwin McCain Band with Brian Vander Ark

8 p.m. June 26, $20.50 advance, $22.50 day of, The Vogue, 6259 N College Ave., (317) 259-7029.

You might be more familiar with the work of Edwin McCain and Brian Vander Ark from the past decade. Both singer/songwriters made their mark with hits back in the day (McCain on his own, Vander Ark with The Verve Pipe), but each has carried a strong touring workload since then. They've made frequent stops in Indy, maintaining strong local fan bases.
