Tobacco taxation hits mark, hurts poor people
The latest round of disproportionate taxation on tobacco is simply another way to enact Prohibition. It will vastly reduce tobacco consumption, which is the true aim of the legislation. But in its wake it will lead to less actual tax collection, huge amounts of illegal trafficking and even poorer low-income people who find pleasure in the taste and smell that tobacco provides.
