Rain is expected to continue soaking the Indianapolis metro area today, with a chance for severe thunderstorms.

A little under an inch of rain has fallen in the last 24 hours. Scattered showers are forecast for the afternoon.

There’s a slight chance the storms could produce severe weather, such as nickel-sized hail and 60 mile-per-hour wind gusts, said Chad Omitt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. As much as two inches of rain could accumulate by day’s end.

It’s expected to remain rainy into the night, with another round of thunderstorms descending on the area about 8 p.m.
