When students at Jeremiah Gray-Edison Elementary blew out a fundraising goal, they knew what it meant for their principal and academy director: a day on the building’s roof.

Principal Elizabeth Fox and Academy Director Dana DeHart were more than glad to comply after students raised more than $2,000 for the Koins 4 Kids program to benefit the Perry Township Education Foundation and the school.

“You know what? That was one of the best days I’ve had,” Fox said of her time on the roof.

Unlike most days, Fox and DeHart got a few hours to relax as students sent up lunch, drinks, books and tissues via a basket and pulley system.

“Our goal was $1,000,” Fox said of the fund drive. “We collected $2,026 and more is still coming in.”

Of that money, $1,000 will go to the foundation; the rest stays with the school to use for academic incentives and other items.

In the seven years the school has been open, Fox said Jeremiah Gray has received $62,000 in grants from the foundation.

“That’s just amazing,” she said.
