Quotes
“It’s rare to hear something new and exciting in the realm of folk/roots music, but the careful alchemists of The Ragbirds have given us just that!”
-Bryan Rodgers, Homegrown Music Network
“The most engaging new band I’ve heard this year is The Ragbirds….eclectic, restlessly creative, poetic, and delivered with confidence, it grows on you with every listen.”
-Jeffery Overstreet, Looking Closer
“This is evidence of the very best of what independent contemporary pop music has to offer”
-Thom Jurek, All Music (AMG)
“Their world music influenced repetoire and virtuoso musicianship is already earning a buzz”
-The Ann Arbor Paper
“The Ragbirds have gestated a sound and experience so unlike anything you’ve seen in these parts, you may begin to wonder if you’ve teleported to another land”
-Cheryl Wilson, The Uncommon Sense Magazine
“I feel like I’ve stumbled across a band that’s destined to achieve the same level of cult-greatness as The Innocence Mission, Bruce Cockburn, Ron Sexsmith, Sufjan Stevens, and yes, even Over the Rhine…. The Ragbirds debut album, Yes Nearby, is a work of astounding international eclecticism, mixing everything from reggae to Celtic to blues music along with plenty of world music into a unified, enchanting whole”
-Josh Hurst, Revealarts
“In an era of catchy but ultimately unsatisfying pop tunes, this is a welcome treat!”
-Roger Lelievre, The Ann Arbor News
“The first time I heard them play I was stunned….I heard their music and literally stopped in my tracks. Their music is not only inspiring and powerful, but a successful experiment in teleportation as well”
-Jamie Bradish, The Ypsilanti Courier
“Like a well-worn suitcase covered with travel stickers of world-music styles”
-Alan Goldsmith, The Ann Arbor Observer
About Lying Delilah
With Northwest Indiana roots and a strong all ages following, Lying Delilah is a breath of fresh air to Chicago’s guitarist dominated music scene. Fronted by Jodi Rosenthal ..s with her sensual voice and complimented by Steve Pesich, bass, and Andrew Dumaresq, drums, Lying Delilah have begun to create a stir with solid live performances throughout Chicago, Wisconsin and Indiana.
The band started with just Jodi, a self taught pianist, who began to dabble with song writing at the age of seventeen. After writing a few songs, Jodi realized music was where her heart was and invited long time friends and multi-instrumentalists Steve and Andrew to join her and form full time band, Lying Delilah. All agree that it was “instant magic” when they sat down and began feeding off each other’s ideas, ultimately writing debut album, Polygraph (February 2006).
The album conveys an unexplainable, adventurous sound. Jodi, no doubt, faces comparisons to female songstresses Fiona Apple and Tori Amos with her undeniable piano skills and heart melting vocals, but with the addition of Steve and Andrew and an eclectic combination of influences including Ben Folds, Etta James, Fiona Apple, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, They Might Be Giants and Primus, the band has been able to defy such comparisons and combine various musical styles to create a sound unique and refreshing to today’s music industry. Lying Delilah’s songs transcend any set genre and the album has a style of singer-songwriter meets jazz and jam band, all topped off with a Broadway musical feel that makes the band’s sound both different and distinct.
Even more impressive than a solid first album are Lying Delilah’s live performances that capture the audience with the first melodic piano phrases and Jodi’s jaw dropping voice. When the rest of the band joins in creating an explosively smooth sound, it truly is instant magic. Performances are taken to the next level when songs are extended with complex instrumental sequences creating a progressive rock feel. This is where the band is strongest with dizzying piano melodies, prominent bass lines and a drum beat that completes the band’s full sound. Such musical developments allow the band to satiate and appeal to the tastes of a wide, diverse audience.
,br>In addition to their first album Polygraph, Lying Delilah just finished their much anticipated second album, With No Gravity (October 2008).
