The Michael Ironside Factor

Some students and I got to talking about what I call "The Michael Ironside Factor."

Actor Michael Ironside ("V," Highlander 2, Starship Troopers, Total Recall) has a bizarre tendency. The man loses a major appendage in nearly every movie to feature him. Highlander 2: His head. Starship Troopers: His lower half. Total Recall: His arms.

The Machinist...his hand...

Other examples?

I'm thinking that was him in Scanners...can't recall.

Great actor, great new game to play.

Also, don't forget to mention that his character was already without an appendage in Starship Troopers: His character was missing one arm below the elbow.

An update: he was the guy from "Scanners", and here's a tidbit from imdb:

"A talented arm wrestler in his youth, he ironically often loses an arm and / or other limb in his films: Total Recall (1990), Starship Troopers (1997), Maquinista, El (2004) and Guy X (2005). If he hadn't been too bulky he also would have played Murphy in RoboCop (1987), who loses both his arms."

I really can't imagine him as Robocop, as awesome as he undoubtedly would have been.

I'd never seen that on IMDB. Sad thing is, I'm pretty sure we only have a partial list...
