"The Exorcist" a man possessed

In spite of his nickname, Chris “The Exorcist” Price was like a man possessed in the beginning of his MMA career, going from a warehouse brawl to the UFC to out of the sport in three years. He’s hoping the second act of his professional story will show steady, gradual progress.

“I’m looking for a fight a month until work picks back up,” Price said. The Avon resident works in heavy highway construction and sees his hours cut in half when it’s too cold to work. Price is looking to stay busy after sitting out a year, from fall of 2007 to Nov. of 2008 in a dispute with his agent, and make it to the UFC again sometime in ’09.

The Marine Corp. veteran “wasn’t home a month” from Iraq in 2005 when he went to see his friend Johnny Rees fight in an unsanctioned MMA event. Someone dropped off the card, and before he knew it, Price was fighting, and winning, for the first time. “The Exorcist” worked his way up through local shows to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where he lost to Kendall Grove and Ed Herman.

Price believes he can make it back to the big show if he strings a few wins together, but right now he’s taking it one fight a month at a time.

United Fight League, Saturday, Dec. 13, Murat Center, 502 N New Jersey St., 8 p.m. Tickets available at Ticketmaster.com or the Murat box office.
