Thank You For Smoking-DVD

Just rented this DVD because I had heard it was pretty cleverly written and I liked Aaron Eckhart from his Neil Labute days. This movie, written and directed by Jason Reitman of Juno fame is one of the most entertaining movies i've seen in years. One can't help but view Nick Naylor, a tobacco lobbyist in a sympathetic manner no matter what one's view on smoking may be. It immediately presents a great story of parental love, responsibility and humor. A great scene is when Nick's son, writing an essay on "Why America has the best government in the world" is told by his father that it's because of the endless appeals system. Then he realizes that the question is fatally flawed, because he breaks down why American really isn't the greatest. His persuasiveness is inspiring and both my husband and I laughed throughout the entire movie. If you don't get it, you probably didn't like Pulp Fiction either.

Oh, that's a great movie. Here's my favorite quote.

"After watching the footage of the Kent State shootings, Bobby Jay, then seventeen, signed up for the National Guard so that he, too, could shoot college students."

It wasn't the worst movie I've seen but I didn't think it was that great.

I loved this movie. As you said, your opinion on smoking does not matter. This movie is cynical and harsh and true to the core of what I think more people need to realize: they are or should be accountable for their own choices and actions. Responsibility for your sucessess and triumphs depends on the individual and I love that his character denotes this. My wife and I too loved this movie! Good taste.

Yes, I agree that it was a very good movie. LOVED Eckhart, Koechner and Maria Bello sitting around the table at their "merchant of death" meetings.

Quincy, sounds like you have good taste too! Randy, why are you always negative? Is there anything that you really love?
