After months of watching the "Coming Soon" sign with anticipation, I finally ate lunch at TaTa Cuban Cafe across from my office (137 W. Market Street). As Indy's only Cuban restaurant, this place still holds its own. The atmosphere is comfortable and the food is good - very tasty with spicy, citrus undertones. My friend and I shared two pressed sandwiches: one with Mojo chicken and mozarella, and one with Mojo sirloin with onions and peppers. Total bill (including a soda) was $18ish. Will definitely dine there again, and recommend!

I had a good time too with my friends, I loved Cuban sandwich, and we will go back soon.

They even play videos on plasma TV about Havana.Very interesting….

Oh yay! It’s finally open!
I’ll have to head down. I’d been waiting but hadn’t checked in in awhile.

I am originally from Cuba and was looking forward to trying TaTa Cuban Cafe. The afternoon of July 11th we stopped in to try the food and I was very disappointed. The service was poor, my wife ordered the Ropa Vieja which was very bland. I ordered the Shrimp Varadero which was too hot (spice ?)for me to eat so I ordered a cuban sandwich and that was alright. After complaining to cook and waitress I was still charged the full bill. I do not consider this good Cuban food, if you want that you either have to go to Chicaogo or Miami. I will not be going back or recommending TaTa’s to anyone.

I am Also from miami .I was also dissapointed.I guess my first clue was the cheesy Gloria Estefan video playing on the plasma. I ordered puerco asado It had some red sauce on it.HELLO!SECOND CLUE red sauce .Do not get me wrong for a tourist or a colts fan this is authentic dining at its best but for the rest of us. NOT!If you want authentic try HAVANAS CAFE on 38TH AND MOLLER.The chef is a master chef from cuba. This place opened up about 2 months ago. Try it you will not go wrong.

Ricky you are kidding about Havanas Cafe.
Yo soy Cubana , and got sick from their food. The chef was fired from TATA so that tells you something and owners of this restaurant are not Cuban.
No one speak English, and no one is Cuban there. Thanks not for me.

I have eaten at Tata and at Havana Cafe, and I can really vouch for the food.
Very good Cuban food but Havana Cafe has me sold because finally Indianapolis meets true ethnic Cuban food, very nice restaurant with a mami style setup inside! not Upscale but great ambiance and children friendly,

Highly Recommended! Combination of Cuban and Puerto Rican dishes.
Reservations required for large party’s. I love it there, Small cozy restaurant in the westside area. Good menu selection at very affordable prices!..ohh and the chef is Cuban and they do speak English.

hey Ricky i spoke to the chef from havana cafe (Jaunito) and he is really nice and funny, I didn’t know he worked at Tata’s restaurant, well im glad he got his own place because I found my Cafe of choice now, i don’t want to sound like tata’s is not good because it is but Havana Cafe has a cool vibe where people talk about music, politics, sports and Free WiFi all day long.

I recommend both restaurants but Havana Cafe has my choice of the title “Indianapolis First Cuban Restaurant”. Happy eating :)
