Sunflower Market Closing!

I don't know if you heard the news, but I went to sunflower market yesterday and they had big signs up proclaiming that they are closing in a couple of weeks. All that's left there is all that there is gonna be, so if you want to stock up on something then I'd hurry.

I really liked that store as a place to get organic produce at resonable prices, as well as a place to find things you might not find in other stores. Granted, it is too expensive for my limited budget to do the bulk of my shopping, but I did frequent the place. (and the $5 off coupons rocked too!)

It just makes me sad to see the little place go.

Darn it. I'd heard that too. Haven't been for a couple of weeks because I, too, can't afford it consistently. But I loved having it there. We still have Good Earth, but it's not the best for produce, which Sunflower was really good at.

You better mention the gorgeous cheese girl that I have had a mega crush on for 2 years. Anthony, Rex and the whole staff there kicked mega ass!

Bummer, I was really hoping we'd get a location downtown.. Hopefully Whole Foods will fill this void in the near future.

How about a new Trader Joes in BR and downtown instead?

I suggest sending emails to the companies you want to open in your area.

I email: Target, Whole Foods, Trader Joes and Jamba Juice every month or so requesting a locations downtown. The more people who do this the better.

You can and should do this with any business you want in your neighborhood.

Jamba Juice has looked into it. But from what I've heard, they're looking for someone to open, like, a dozen stores in the area. Which, honestly, Indy just can't support. Heck, they'd be lucky to pull of a dozen stores in the whole state. So I've given up holding my breath for them to show up.

But great idea. Trader Joe's is definitely on my list. A downtown or even near Southside location would be phenomenal.

That's a great idea! I would LOVE to have a Trader Joe's in the spot where the Sunflower used to be. I like shopping there but I hate driving so far to get to one... usually only pick up a couple of things if I'm already in the area.

I'm going to do that emailing thing now.

Seriously, a DOZEN? I could see these locations being feasible.

  1. Broad Ripple
  2. Mass Ave
  3. IUPUI
  4. Circle Centre
  5. Keyston Xing
  6. Castleton
  7. Greenwood Mall area
  8. Nora
  9. MAYBE Irvington or Fountain Square/Fletcher Place

If I had the means I would seriously start the franchise here.

Technically Indiana has ONE Jamba Juice in some mall in Merriville.

I see big brother Gannett is censoring their community blog. We try to do the community a service and they delete it. Nice.

Jamba juice is looking for someone to open 30+ locations in the next 5-8 years. They make take on the task of expanding into Indy, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee on their own now and not seek outside financial backers though. That location is far to large for a Jamba Juice anyways.

Fresh Market is supposed to open at the end of May at the corner of 54th & College (where the old Atlas Supermarket used to be). Fresh Market will be similar to Sunflower Market, etc. I suggest Wild Oats in Nora for packaged and frozen organic products and Kroger at 65th & Keystone for Organic produce (they have an organic section that isn't too pricey nor shabby).

Sunflower Market was a great food donor to Second Helpings. For the record, the two other grocery stores that donate to us are Wild Oats and Trader Joe's. Please thank them for donating when your shopping there.

Yeah, that was really a nice little place and it's too bad it had to shut down.
