Style: Make your own packing-tape transfer, travel with Febreeze and stay away from Tyra's fierceness
DIY
This week’s craft is so easy I am, once again, surprised I never thought of it myself. Then again, I like to over-complicate things, so maybe I shouldn’t expect to come up with ideas with this brand of easy genius.
This craft comes to you from Molly Likes to Draw (mollylikestodraw.blogspot.com) via Craftzine. MLtD’s packing tape transfers are an extremely clever yet devastatingly simple way to punch up a boring…anything (see my name tag).
What you need:
- An image that you’ve printed up — ideally a small image
- Packing tape
- A dish
- Room temperature water
How to make it:
Put the tape over your image. Put the taped-over image in water. Let it sit for two to three minutes (the taped image will curl). Rub the paper off the tape and vie-ol-uh, you have an image on your tape.
Magic three
1. You still have money for travel? I don’t, but that doesn’t mean my love of the exotic has gone numb. I don’t usually go for things like this, but Febreeze’s new Destinations Collection, which includes fabric refreshers, air effects, candles and electric air fresheners, smells like all the best parts of your last vacation. Choose from Hawaiian Aloha, Brazilia Carnaval and Moroccan Bazaar (just the scents I would choose over Amsterdam Brothel, Las Vegas Buffet Line and New York Subway.) Destinations Collection is $2.99 to $7.99.
2. Kelley Deal replaced her former favorite hobby, spitting in a wishing well, with knitting. You remember Kelley, right? She was in the Breeders with her sister, Kim Deal. Well, Kelley has learned to knit. She learned on the road from some German band dude’s girlfriend. Now she’s poured her talents into the yarn and the needles. “Bags that Rock” (Lark Books, $17.95) is her collection of knitted bags that might not be able to play guitar but rock nonetheless.
3. America’s Next Top Model Cycle 12 is three episodes in. Are you watching? Subscribe to Youtube user 8887777 and catch all of the action online if you miss it on the CW. If you don’t, Tyra Banks will hunt you down and fierce you up.
