Style: Bat wings and bedsheets

Tunics are great for spring. Especially when they’re made from old bedsheets and have bat wings. I crafted this one using a how-to format from BurdaStyle.com for a “Longevity Tunic” (www.burdastyle.com/howtos/show/1... .
Simply fold your jersey fabric in half, and mark your seams, leaving room for your arms. Cut a hole for your neckline in the center. Carefully sew up the seams. If you want to get really jazzy with it, you can cut your sleeve edges into jagged designs. All told, this shouldn’t take you more than half an hour, but the results are fabulous.

MAGIC 3

1. Springtime often brings zits and zits bring the need for a good foundation to cover them up. Max Factor’s Color Genius (Natural No. 3 is my best match) feels light but offers full coverage. You can find Max Factor at WalMart, Kmart, Meijer and ULTA. The foundation costs about $10.

2. If you are worried about the fate of the My Little Pony that you decorated and sent to Indy.com, or are still wanting to donate a customized My Little Pony to our charitable auction, take note: The event has been rescheduled for May 1 at Locals Only. Co-sponsors are Sunday Afternoon Housewife and Transpanther Booking. Along with mint juleps and a pony performance, we’ll have music from Elsinore, Kentucky Nightmare, and Secondary Modern. Customized ponies will be accepted on the day of, but better to get them in early. More details to come later this month.

3. Maybe your mom can’t dress. Maybe your mom thinks you can’t dress. Maybe you both can’t dress. Maybe you’re both the picture of perfection. Anyway the clothing fits, you’ll enjoy “Steal This Style: Moms and Daughters Swap Wardrobe Secrest. Looks that Make Hip Classic and Classic Cool” (Clarkson Potter; $22.95 paperback; May 2009) by Sherrie Mathieson. The book features photos of moms and daughters modeling the “wrong” looks and the “right” looks for different occasions. The playful photography and words highlightswhat can go wrong – and right – when you dress for each other. It also makes for a good Mother’s Day gift.

A Person Who is NOT Justin

Your article again assumes that the reader knows how to sew and isn’t likely to accidentally stitch his face to his disco tunic. If only the Indy.com Style Guru could make house calls…

It helps if you don’t actually put your face INTO the sewing machine. I mean, I think I can make this and I haven’t used a machine since my junior high home ec class.

You can also hand stitch it, Justin. I mean, NOT Justin. That’s a simple up down up down motion. Your wife/not wife also knows how to sew and can help you.

Hey, wait a minute … I’m starting to think that this person who isn’t Justin might really be him in a very clever e-disguise. The jig is up!

Great picture! Can I have three wallets and an 8×10?
