South Knox High School big man Mitchell Patton committed Monday to play basketball at IUPUI.

Patton, a 6-9, 250-pound senior, averaged 15.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.9 blocked shots last year as a junior. He committed after a weekend visit to IUPUI.

“He’s thrilled to be playing for the Jaguars,” South Knox coach Joe Patton said.

“I know their coaches are really excited to get him. They feel his skill-set fits in with the type of offense they run. They think he’ll do a good job of drawing the other team’s center away from the basket and kind of open up the paint.”

With Patton in the post, South Knox has gone 17-5 and 18-7 the past two seasons.

“He has really good hands, soft hands, shoots the ball well, has college 3-point range,” Patton said. “He passes well. He’s a good shot-blocker. He’s a very skilled big man and he works extremely hard at the game.”
