About Solar Howard
Indianapolis based Solar Howard was formed in July of 2008. Solar Howard plays many styes of music summed up in a psychedelic style similar to the The Allman Brothers, The Band, Grateful Dead, Little Feat, Phish, Wide Spread Panic and others. The rhythmic core of Solar Howard are the 2 drummers, Keith Yount and Joe O’Connell. Joe and Keith were the backbone of a long time Indianapolis favorite, The Spirtles, since 1985. Few rock bands have ever featured two drummers, but these two percussionists with their bonding rhythms, inseparable beats and raw driving energy are a trademark of the Solar Howard sound. Tom Kiefaber saw his first rock concert, backstage at an Allman Brothers show. Never looking back, Tom has become an imaginative master guitar player. He has jammed with some of the best, including Dickey Betts, Warren Haynes & many others. George Handlon has been a regular in the Indianapolis music scene for many years. A singer/song writer, George has played in many local bands including The Fancy Lizards and Little Sky Giant. George’s strong baritone voice and quirky original material say it all. Together with Tom, the 2 have written Solar Howard’s present original material. To round out the band, Greg Leistikow has played piano and organ in bands like Code Violation, Lefty Bates and the Headhunters, Odd Man, and The Shades. His main influences are Dr. John, Bill Evans, Pinetop Perkins and Rick Wright. Finally holding down the bottom end of the Solar Howard rhythm section with a style crafted from a wide, eclectic musical galaxy is Randy “Ranch” Wuertz on bass & vocals. Positive energy, hypnotic grooves and zany humor are good descriptions of a Solar Howard performance. Please come join together at the next Solar Howard experience!
