Sub-feezing weather settles in
A 30-degree temperature drop and the return of light snow means Indianapolis has been reminded that more than a month of winter is left.
The morning white stuff, which frustrated motorists when it made roads slick and led to some wrecks on surprise ice, will be followed by a chance of snow and freezing rain tomorrow and Saturday.
Temperatures will stay below freezing for most of the rest of the week and the weekend.
The National Weather Service forecast says tonight’s low temperature will fall to 15 and tomorrow’s high will be 34.
When Indiana weather changes, it’s a big change. The 10 a.m. temperature yesterday was 48 degrees. Today at the same time, the temperature was 18. That cold led to so many crashes on the interstate highways around Indianapolis that Indiana State Police stopped tracking the number of wrecks.
Then the sun came out and warmed the pavement enough to melt the ice and traffic returned to normal.
This year, spring begins on March 20.
