A friend of mine is thinking about the Chicago to Indy train. For this particular trip, the price is comparable to megabus. Which is a better ride?

I took a train to Portland, Oregon and back in February. Amtrak runs monthly specials - my round trip was less than $200. I only purchased a coach seat, because I figured would be like riding in a car; I'll sleep when I'm tired. That, plus (as far as I can tell) you are allowed to bring your own drinks on the train. I ate and drank with random people, lounged, had the time to sit and read (for which I never take the time), and saw some amazing scenery while hanging out in the lounge car.

I don't fly, wasn't in a big hurry, and didn't want to drive that far in my car. I've heard other people haven't had as positive experiences with Amtrak, but I had a great time, and had the opportunity to simply relax.
