That story originated from the pen --er, computer -- of the Indy Star's own Bill Ruthhart, who is on the campaign trail '08...Word is he also did some radio interviews about it ~ including XM.

There is a link to a story about the free Dave tickets on the Drudge Report. Pretty funny and clever, actually! Obama's campaign guy in Bloomington announced that he was giving out free Dave tickets just as Bill Clinton was set to speak on campus. Evidently a bunch of people left the Clinton rally to get the free Dave tickets…from Obama's people! Now that's pretty funny! And smart!

Something tells me Assembly Hall will be full 6 hours before the show starts and there will be thousands of people outside. Maybe they should set up video screens!

Regarding 1 ticket per person. YES, it is true, only one ticket per person (they did change that from two) and I got mine!

Got in line this morning at 10:30 am with plans to get two tickets. There was chatter throughout the line that they cut Bloomington off last night to one per-person, and were probably going to do the same thing here. The line was about two blocks long ending on Illinois in front of the Conrad and begining at Obama's campaign headquarters on Washington and Meridian. As we waited in line, several ppl who had already gotten tickets said that they were in fact only giving one ticket per person, so many of us who were there alone and planned on grabbing one for family and friends sort of sighed and started making phone calls to get stand-ins for more tickets while continuing to stand in line for a single concert ticket to a venue over 50 miles away (GOSH I LOVE DMB).
At about 11:45 I made my way in to sign my name and address, check the box stating I support Obama (or not if you don't) and that I would volunteer (or not if you won't :) and I was handed my one ticket.

So, I asked the guy if I could please have one more for my spouse who was at work and could not get not possibly get down there to get his own, and of course he smiled and politley and said he couldn't. BUT he did make a suggestion: "GO TO THE END OF THE LINE!" If you get back in line, he said, you can get another ticket and the line is much shorter now. HMMMMM.... Sure enough, the end of the line now was right in front of the Rock Bottom Brewery which was only a 10 to 15 min wait. What was 10 or 15 min for my hubby when I just waited over an hour for mine?!?! So I jumped right back in line and so did a few others. I went to another person at the table to get my ticket so as to only make myself guilty of any possible crime against ticketery, and not the nice guy who told me how to score another ticket for my hubby - he did just see my face 10 min ago.
Moral of the story: This time it paid to not camp out for tickets and be the first in line. If you arrived late, you could jump right back a short line and grab another ticket for your date Sunday night! I can't wait!!

I got mine! Its exciting to see that Obama may very well be our next president, and that he has a supporting cast that the Clinton folks can't touch with a 10 foot pole!

I see...Regardless, I've got my fingers crossed for an Obama appearance, since I'm committed to the thing now. I heard one mention on WTTS this a.m., and headed to Meridian St. quickly and filled with assumption. Anyway, thanks for your help.

I guess I should have asked Mr. Lindquist, local music guru. My bad.

When I heard about this yesterday, I figured it would only be One ticket per person, So I made a post, http://www.indy.com/posts/6649 and Dave L. responded and said two tickets a person, still no believing that, when I got home I check DMB's site.... http://dmband.com/news/view/7609326981d081ac5a758b04ad0b30fd ..... it states that 2 tickets per person. I then checked Obama's and yesterday it did say two, I promise. Obviously it's changed probably due to demand and I don't blame them....I still think it's bogus.

You don't have to change your post...but you already did......i just didn't want you to get your hopes up. IF he is there, then that will be an added bonus for you!

Humm...I think this is Obama's site: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/indavematthews, and it clearly states "one ticket per person."

But, you made me think: Perhaps I'll change my post a bit. My tickets says Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, but it doesn't say that Barack will be there. Rats...I assumed. That's always a mistake.

1 ticket per person is pretty bogus, since both DMB's and Obama's site state that each person will get 2. None the less, it will be a good thing to go to, but I don't think it will go down in the history books. I'm not saying that to disagree with you or to be mean. I wish I was going, but I don't really want to deal with it all. Too much effort, to little time, general admission....it will be nuts!

The reason I say I don't think it will be as epic as you say is because I went to the "Vote for Change" tour during the last election. It was in Dayton, OH, with DMB, Ben Harper, Jurassic 5 and My Morning Jacket. There was no political presence at all and not one band talked about it at all. Dave stopped for ONE minute, maybe, just to acknowledge everyone coming out to support change, but he didn't endorse or bash anyone. This might be a little different, since Obama is sponsoring it, but don't be surprised if Obama isn't even there.
