Dyno Jax is great. I love the Italian Beef.

I agree about everything Chicago being over hyped. Hopefully one day everyone from Chicago and Northern Indiana will realize Chicago isn't LA or NYC and never will be.

Go Cubs! Forget OVER-HYPED. If they hadn't been hyped in the first place, many people would never have discovered their wonderful qualities that draw such loyalty!!

I'm a Chicagoan recently transplanted here in Indy and at home or in the Circle City, you can never go wrong with a fantastic deep dish pizza at UNO Pizzeria. Check it out on 82nd street. Yum!! Drop me a line if you want to grab some friends and split the pie... one piece can be a meal!

esax2132 you're wrong on one count. there is actually a place that sells great Italian Beef sandwiches. i shiz you not! it's in the strip center next to the Music Mill. there's a Borders or B&N next to it. can't remember the name but it's something like Dyno Jax. it's like a hot dog place and you'll never see anyone in there but it actually rules!

PS - Chicago style anything is so OVER-HYPED! Hot Dogs, Pizza, Cubs, Bears, Capone. NYC pizza and dogs are so much better and the Yankees RULE! Sorry.

There is NO good pizza in Indy. There's OK pizza, but nothing that resembles even your run of the mill Chicagoland pizza restaurant. Don't even bother looking. There's no Italian Beef either - pizza and beef are a package deal.

Amazing reviews at that link for Maria's.

Maria's should be open any day now, in Fountain Square. I'm not sure what their crust is like, but this place is legendary, and I'm excited it's now in the Square.

Union Jack also makes great deep dish. Family friendly, too.

There's a few Chicago's Pizza places still around. One in Clermont, one in Bargersville, another in Franklin. There's a fairly new Godfather's Pizza in Greenwood, haven't been there yet but I have fond memories from years ago. And there's Sweet Home Chicago in Brownsburg. I haven't tried the pizza there yet either but it looks good. Every time I'm there, I have the intention of trying the pizza but I always end up getting the hot dogs or italian beef.

I need to try Nancys...
I know it can be tough to describe, but which strip mall is it in? The one where Blockbuster's been ever since?

Ale Emporium and Grambolis (off Pendleton Pike on the NE side) are both pretty darn good and were my 1st thoughts. Grambolis has been there a looooong time and I think is a nice place to support. Killer breadsticks, too.

The two I would recommend are Ale Emporium at Allisonville and 86th street, and Nancy's Pizza, way out east on 96th Street, past the Meijer's, in a strip mall. Nancy's is good for families and does a lot of take-out. Ale Emporium is a bar so you have to be 21 to enter. Their deep dish pizza is not quite as saucy as what I think of as Chicago style, but the crust has the buttery-crispiness I like and there's tons of cheese.
