People are looking for something that meets their interests, whether it be cooking, politics, sports, travel, etc. However, I have heard podcasts that are just sort of improvised discussion that come off quite well. My personal favorite is the Ricky Gervais Show (writer/director of the British version of The Office). But the show's entertainment value hinges largely on the imbecilic ideas and thoughts of co-host Karl Pilkington. I would highly recommend it for anyone who needs a good laugh. People are more likely to come back if they have a general idea of what they're going to get. It's also helpful to have at least a loose outline of each show done before you start recording.
