Right now, if a user has 'Allow other members to send you emails?' turned on in your preferences you can receive private message. It's just a matter of finding people who have that turned on or telling people you want to email to turn it on. That said, there very well could be a future feature that handles this more within the site. That's about as specific as I can get right now though.

roniewhorn: So, based on the discussion in this thread, it's obvious you wouldn't like private messaging because your wife would be flirting with every Robert Indiana on Indy.com. I could really live without the private messaging cause I have no problem telling it like it is in the open. Do we have a deal or no deal?

Please don't turn this into a cluttered and visually over-bearing myspace or facebook. Also please don't allow "stalking" features such as Shimmercore's request for private messaging. He's hiding behind glasses and secret messages.
This is a forum people! Let's keep it that way.
oh yeah. I'm happily married.

Another thing: I think married people have gotten over that anxiety that single people tend to have, because in a lot of ways the opposite sex is demystified and de-idealized. When you're married (I think living together probably qualifies too), you see your spouse at their most vulnerable, and you realize more that they're just people too and that they're largely like you.

I think if you're happily married and secure in your relationship, you're more free to be honest with things like that and not have to hide it from your spouse for fear they will get angry or jealous. Plus it just feels good to flirt or be flirted with.

Then again, there are some people who are unhappily married who do it to make themselves feel better about themselves or to get something they feel like they're missing in their relationship.

That's because as a married woman, I feel like I can say, "Hey, you're a hottie" and not have any expectations. It doesn't mean I want anything from it, but I can still appreciate some good eye candy. I don't need to get all nervous and giggly just cause I can admit some guy is nice looking.

Also, a lot of married people feel like they want to know they still "got it", and that's why they flirt. It's just to see if anyone will flirt back, or if they've totally forgotten how to flirt at all. I just feel like I've earned the right to be honest.

In my experience, it's the married ones that flirt the most. The single ones are the prudes. Maybe this marital status feature could come with the private message feature I requested over a month ago.

I think is is not a bad idea - most of the other 'social site' have that on the profile pages. And I mean "not specified" could be an option. Good idea Randy.

Seriously, it would be nice to make the profiles on here more user-friendly. For those who are interested, it might be the first somewhat functional online dating service for folks in Indianapolis, since this forum gets a fair amount of activity and many (though not all) of the posters seem to have functioning brains.

If you want to hit on a girl, why not take a few extra seconds to read her profile? If she is married, she will probably say so. Plus, if you're interested, it will help you have something to talk to her about.
