I would expect readings or performances of Shakespeare's works, and if I was one to get excited about that and actually visit Lazy Daze on this night, I'd be very disappointed.

I'm not arguing the idea behind the name. It's just that from a marketing point of view, it sounds like an evening of "Othello," when in reality it's more like a reading of Corso or Ginsberg. If you're an out-of-towner and saw only the name of the event, what would you think?

Oh, BTW, Bookmamas has started an open mic on the second Friday of every month in its Underground 9 studio. It begins at 7 p.m. this Friday, June 13.

Btw...the name "An Evening With Shakespeare" is named that because Shakespeare was a rebel at the time with thoughts and ideas outside of the social norm. It would be hard to argue that the poets and listeners of this event aren't like Shakespeare in that respect. An open mike is never named for one poet, but rather for how things are at the event. Another example is the name "Writers Speak Volumes," which obviously doesn't mean that writers read entire volumes of material.
