So the man is staying for at least another year. And I think Dungy seems to be an inspirational, gentle leader who is changing the face of football by NOT being the red-faced, foul-mouthed coach on the sidelines who throws his headset on the ground, spittle flying out of his mouth as he yells at the refs, expletives well understood by TV audiences despite the lack of sound.

I think he is a wonderful leader and role model for athletes and coaches across our nation. From what I've read, he seems like a humble, well-rounded, faithful man who, although I've never met him, I respect and praise and am thankful has been a part of the fabric of the Indianapolis community.

I do not, however, idolize the man. There is a fine line between respect and idolatry. And recently there's been a lot of backlash following Bob Kravitz's column "Struggling to understand Dungy's decision". People are defending Dungy as if he were some superhuman god and putting him on a pedestal usually reserved for Nobel prize winners, new loves and the recently deceased.

Personally, I'm glad Dungy made the decision to stay for another season. It'll be good for the team. However, the nasty things that are saying in response to Kravitz (which I know he's accustomed to so I'm not necessarily defending him) are really just kind of appalling. He voices his concerns RESPECTFULLY, which is key, and makes special note that he's even discussed this with Dungy himself. This is not a case of someone spouting his or her mouth behind someone else's back, making derogatory comments and trying to bring down that person's reputation.

Kravitz actually makes a good point. And whether you agree or disagree, one must look at the reason why this invokes such a strong reaction and the logic behind any reasoning as to why you support or don't support his sentiments.

So many people simply bash Bob. They're reacting with their guts, in blind adoration without taking time to listen with their hearts about the merits of what Kravitz is trying to say.

If I were the type of California hippie would still believed the stereotypes about Midwesterners, I'd say that this would be a perfect example of lack of small-mindedness, lack of logical thought and uneducated responses.

Luckily, I'm not that type of girl. ;)

p.s. I still think Dungy is a mismatch for the "Tackle Your Fears: Get Tested for HIV" ad campaign.
