Lisa,
Though I am not a fan of sushi, I really enjoyed reading your post. You have a very welcoming writing style that makes your reader feel at ease and as if he is joining you on your culinary excursion.

The reason I stay away from sushi (or anything uncooked that used to crawl, swim, fly or walk) is because of a bad experience I had a few summers ago. While in Nassau, Bahamas, I had a fresh conch salad that essentially beat me up for weeks. The conch in conch salad is raw and the dish was tasty and refreshing. However, whatever that particular conch had just consumed... before I consumed it... was passed on to me. It was a long and unpleasant lesson. I understand that all sushi is not raw, and I have had sushi that I enjoyed, but now I prefer evidence of my food having passed over a fire.

I look forward to reading more of your dining posts.

"Hisago is one of those places that looks dreary and old school from the outside, located in one of those depressing little strip malls that were probably built in the 60s. But once you're through the front doors, you find a very tidy establishment with pleasant but typical Japanese decor: lots of little porcelain figures, dioramas of zen gardens and pagodas, etc."

I have driven by this place a number of times, and that description of where it sits is spot on! But, I have always had a yearning to check it out, and now that I know the inside is nothing like the outside.. I might have to give it a go.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Hey, thanks for the recommendation. I've been searching in vain for a good Eastside sushi joint.
