I haven't had any interest in celebrity sex tapes, but the concept has recently piqued my curiosity. If people like Kim Kardashian claim to be embarrassed by the "leak" of a personal sex tape, then why do they continue to let it be on the market? I recently heard that all parties, legally, have to agree to the distribution for it to continue to be distributed or they can make an issue out of it. So then how much do they really care, or get embarrassed, by its public availability if they are not stopping it from being dispersed? Even Paris Hilton claimed that she had nothing to do with her tape's release, but she obviously hasn't had anything to do with stopping it either.
The only way to get around these types of situations...don't be in the sex tape in the first place! Why does that just seem easy to me?
The secret is that they all secretly like the publicity the tapes attract.
It's like Coolio when "Weird Al" Yankovic did the "Amish Paradise" spoof of his song "Gangsta's Paradise." When asked at the Grammys what he thought of the song and whether he gave permission for it to be parodied, Coolio angrily said he did not and that he didn't like the song being lampooned. But Weird Al, who in the 25 or so years he's been doing these, said he can offer the documentation that permission was given and that Coolio himself talked to him and laughed and gave him permission to do the song.
In other words, they have to feign outrage to keep their image, but secretly they're likely getting tons of pub, if not direct financial benefit.
