So I was watching the convention last night, just in time to hear the last of McCain's speech. As the confetti fell and the balloons were released, I could hear an odd tune in the background. Of corse just last week Obama accepted his party's nomination and then played Brooks and Dunn's "Only in America" but I have to say McCain using "Baracuda" really got me riled up.

This was wrong on so many levels. First off, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how the lyrics work at all and maybe, if you are anal retentive like I am, when you know the true story behind the song, it makes even less sense to use as a campagin tune...

So what do we think would be the best campaign songs for the candidates? David Bowie's "Changes" keeps coming to mind since bothe candidates seem to be pushing for that, but I am sure there are other cool ones as well. What do you think?

I guess the Wilson sisters have already sent a cease-and-desist to the GOP re: Barracuda. I heard on the radio that the story broke yesterday that they sent the letter, but they still used the song last night (is this correct anyone?).

Supposedly Sarah Palin was called "Sarah Barracuda" on her high school basketball team, which is why they used that song.

I swear during that (Disney-like) opening film about McCain's life they kept playing this song that sounded alot like the theme from Dallas

I am not surprised that the Wilsons told him he couldn't use it...both of them are very anti-war (even though they were military kids). Somehow I don't see them jumping on the McCain bandwagon. Besides, I can't get past why he thinks the lyrics work in his favor..."If the real thing don't do the trick, you'd better make up something quick. You're gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn it to the wick...." sing with me now..."Ooooh Baracuda!" Soemhow that doens't give me a warm glow about a candidate even though I love the song.

Sounds like those lyrics work fine to me...

This is like the third band who said he couldn't use his stuff. Wow, how sad is that? I just read the article online about the Wilson's filing a suit against him. I found out the reason they used it was because Sarah's nickname is high school was "Sarah barracuda" um....why would you want to advertise that nickname? I sure as heck wouldn't want to be known for anything I did in high school.

Well I was too busy being an erstewhile rock star in high school so my "glory days" didn't happen until later in life....hey maybe that's the song they can use...you know about the best days being behind them!

Um.. I don't think Bruuuce would like Mccain using his song either...and another thing you would think that the people running the campaign and picking out the music might check with the artist before "borrowing" a tune...at least to see if they are backing said candidate or not...

I do like the fact that they always play Journey's Don't stop believin. I think that does resonate
