Haven't tried some of the mentioned fries, except for the fast food places. My vote goes to Penn Station. Fresh cut and fried. Beats frozen everytime

Mmmm... I also like Arby's fries. But for some reason I hate Rally's. I've only had them twice and one time I was pretty intoxicated and the other they tasted dirty or something.

Since I went vegetarian over a year ago, I've had fast food fries like 3 times total. Its def a plus, since there's not much else to eat at most places except fries and I don't do that.

I do get the odd craving for McD's fries though, but I don't give in to temptation

Loon Lake Lodge used to have the best fries, they weren't "potato" fries though, they were made from polenta or something. They came with about 10 different dipping sauces, and they were incredible. I've stopped going there since they discontinued the dipping fries though.

The smell of MickeyD's french fries makes my stomach feel all funny. I've pretty much given up on the place with the exception of their breakfast food. I haven't tried the salad shakers though.

The only fast food fries I occasionally crave are Arby's curly fries. I'm surprised these haven't been brought up!

I think I remember Rally's fries being alright too.

Yeah, Wendy's fries can get kind of limp if you don't get them hot and fresh out of the fryer. Has anyone tried A&W fries lately? Had some the other night and was pleasantly surprised.

Agreed that Five Guys has some rockin' fries. I also like Great Steak and Potato's fries, though they're similar to Five Guys.

My favorite fast food fries are probably Wendy's, though. but they have to be hot and fresh. One advantage other places, like McDonald's, has over Wendy's is their shelf life. I noted above that McD's has a shelf life of 45 minutes. I think Wendy's fries have a shelf life of about 25 minutes.

Rally's has the best fries in the biz. Five Guys also have some great fries, but I like the ones from Bruge Brasserie in BroadRipple. Well, I mainly just like the dipping sauces.

I'm actually a fan of McD fries, although I agree they're not as good as they were before they changed cooking oils to something "healthier." Hey, if I wanted healthy, I wouldn't be stopping at a fast food joint, now would I?

On a side note, probably the best french fries I've encountered recently are at that Weber Grill restaurant downtown. Fan-freaking-tastic.

The fries-in-a-cup at Five Guys are pretty spectacular, too.

If you have seen Super Size Me, on the DVD extras Morgan does this experiment where he puts different McDonald's items in jars to see how long it takes for them to "break down" I forget how long it took for the burger to get all moldy, but the fries never did get moldy, they never changed shape.

That is a funny little film if you've never seen it.

But usually not one I find under the seat of my car. And I say USUALLY not. :)

Question: Do the molecular cells in a McDonald's fry come from a single potato, or are they the result of an amalgamation of indiscernible selected potato parts that are whipped and shaped a la Pringles?

Our opinions diverge on this particular issue. Most any fries, and especially McDonald's fries, have a shelf life of about 45 minutes, then they taste like shards of cardboard rather than potatoes.

McDonald's fries are one of the great contradictions of civilized society, able to be both the tastiest things on the planet while also being totally unappealing and even gross.

Wow. I never thought about it before, but you are right. There is always that one old fry stuck under the seat that looks exactly the same as the day you dropped it. That IS a little scary.

they can survive a nuclear blast though. If you find a McDonald's french fry in your seat cushions it won't be moldy, and it will look exactly the same as the day you bought it three years prior.

Explain that?
