Shepard Fairey Obey Giant
i hope i'm pasting this on the right page because it says arts & culture at the top but it didn't see much about either.
any Shep Fairey fans out there? let's talk shop about Obey prints.

I saw a coffee table book of his work at the Menil museum bookstore in Houston a couple of weeks ago. Do you think that's a sellout? I know some hardcore street art fans get angry when it goes from the street to a gallery.

I have some turntablist dvds with Shepard doing his wheat pasting in the background. He's also on the Scratch dvd outtakes.

i don't believe in selling-out when it comes to art. artists can do whatever they want and people either like it or they don't. i find it hilarious that street artists and some fans think Shep and Banksy have "sold-out" because their work is starting to fetch big $$$ (Banksy's crepe is starting to sell for 7 figures and Shepard's original works earn up to $100K).
I've been a fan of Shepard's work for a while now and sometimes it does get to me. I mean I know everyone needs to make a living but, seeing a some meathead with an OVERPRICED obey shirt from Nordstrom's feels like a slap in the face. On the other hand, for his recent NYC show he did pass out a massive amount of FREE fake obey dollar bills to promote his message/show. http://2one5.com/twonefivecr8tve... In the end, if someone want to spend a large amount of money on your work it's not selling out but selling up.
We're into Shepard Fairey a lot - got the books and the stix, etc. We definitely help the dude sell up, as his message and artwork are on f------ point.
