Shelbyville casino to open March 13
Capping a month of silly, attention-drawing stunts, Indiana Live! Casino announced a firm opening date for its permanent facility in Shelbyville.
The casino, alongside the Indiana Downs horse-racing track south of Indianapolis, will open at 6:30 p.m. on March 13. From then on, it will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to visitors age 21 and older.
Earlier reports had pegged the opening for January.
The permanent Indiana Live! Casino will have 2,000 slot machines, including electronic blackjack, roulette and three-card poker machines. There also will be restaurants, bars and clubs, such as the Maker’s Mark Bourbon House&Lounge, NASCAR Sports Grille, Live! Market and Angels Rock Bar.
It is step up from the smaller temporary pavilion, which opened across from the horse-racing track last year.
To promote the new, permanent casino, Indiana Live! last month launched a series of unorthodox, anonymous giveaways in Downtown Indianapolis.
First there was a model who dropped $1 bills from a giant lifeguard chair. Then, two “live robots” performed and rewarded onlookers with money. And last week, a Hoosier farmer passed out free money to pedestrians with a cow by his side.
Today, Indiana Live! Casino revealed its identity and released “human slot machines” who began giving away more than $50,000 in cash and vouchers for slot machines. The giveaway will continue into next week.
“Everything we’ve done with the promotion is symbolic of the fact that the new Indiana Live! Casino is unique, different and exciting,” Indiana Live! Casino general manager Mark Hemmerle said in a statement.
