Sex appeal of new fathers
I’ve noticed for some time now that new fathers have a lot of pull with the ladies. They sit in restaurants cooing and ahhing over their little ones, and women melt.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Is it like the wedding ring effect (Remember George Costanza), or is there something else at play?

I don’t find young fathers attractive. Mostly because I see it as the final nail in the coffin. Not only is the dude in question way WAY off the market, he’s basically damaged goods. From now on, he’s a dad, and he always has ties to whoever he made the babies with. I don’t mean this in a bad way. I just mean that I can’t swoon over a guy who’s a dad. He ceases to be a flesh-and-blood man anymore. He’s just a father now. It’s commitment, it’s final, it’s permanent. Not so sexy.
However, a lot of women adore new fathers because they see it as a symbol of his commitment to his wife and babies. They seem him as maternal — really! Now he can tend after his flock and be warm and nurturing. It’s basically emotional porn for women. He has to support the mom and baby emotionally and financially, he morphs into an uber-caretaker.

Konrad, I’m thinking it’s the baby that causes the attraction, and they’re not even paying attention to who’s with the baby….or is that just me?

Ahhhh … I hadn’t considered that, but you could be right. I watched “About a Boy” on the weekend, so that was in part what got me thinking along these lines.

Yeah…not all of us look like Hugh Grant.
I can say, though, as a father of two (with the third coming next week!) at the very least it opens opportunities for talking to women if one were interested in such chances. Women constantly are cooing over my kids. My wife and I (and the kids) were eating at Charleston’s in Castleton this weekend, and no fewer than three young women stopped by our table to talk to Jenna, my 18-month-old. That was in the space of about 45 minutes.
Of course, my kids, too, are irresistably and almost painfully adorable, so there’s that.

Congraaaaatulations, Joe!!
So three times the babies = three times the magnetic force from women? Right?

children = sexy repellent ewwww things coming out of every part of their bodies, disgusting smells, little bald helpless bodies, that is a heck of a lot of luggage to be dragging around. But I do know that some women like children. I guess that’s ok. heh
That is such a strange phenomenon. Because it is certainly a rare thing for new mothers to be seen as sexy. One of many double standards. I think new fathers are cute in a benign way, they’re awkward, they’re beguiled, but sexy? Nah.

Being a brand-new Dad (first night home from the hospital with the little guy … squirming in my arms at the moment), I gotta tell you, there’s definitely no feeling sexy. I’m tired, I’m hungry and the last thing on my mind is sex.
I think a man with a puppy is much cuter than a man with a baby.
