Search is on for killer of Eastside man
Police continued Saturday to search for a man in connection with the shooting death of a 24-year-old Eastsider who had been setting off fireworks near his apartment.
Marquis Lynn Hawkins was pronounced dead shortly after 11 p.m. Friday at Wishard Memorial Hospital. Hawkins was taken there after he was found lying on the ground about 10:30 p.m. with a gunshot wound at the Hearts Landing Apartments in the 6400 block of Stouffer Court.
Police are looking for a man seen running from the area with a handgun after the shooting.
Before the shooting, police said, Hawkins and his girlfriend had been setting off fireworks. Hawkins apparently left the area to buy more fireworks, and his girlfriend returned to the apartment, police said.
When she came back out to check on him, she found Hawkins wounded, police said.
Police ask that anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
