FISHERS — A zoning plan Fishers hopes will appease rural Fall Creek Township residents will go to the Advisory Plan Commission for a vote tonight.

The Plan Commission reviewed the plan, which would allow Fall Creek landowners with 5 or more acres to “opt in” to more rural zoning, in September. The plan has been revised to incorporate some of the commission’s suggestions, including lowering the number of permitted farm animals.

Tonight will be residents’ last chance to publicly share their opinions on the plan before it goes to the Town Council, which has the final say on the issue.

Fishers met with Fall Creek Township residents to get their input for the new zoning.

“We are responding to the citizens that felt they wanted that and thought that was appropriate,” Development Director Wes Bucher said in September.

The plan, for which about 230 landowners would qualify, would give people with 10 acres or more the opportunity to use their land for agricultural activities.

People with 5 acres or more could choose estate residential zoning, which would allow limited agricultural use.

Agricultural uses aren’t permitted in the area’s current zoning.

Fishers hopes to have the new zoning program in place by the end of the year.

The Advisory Plan Commission meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Town Hall, 1 Municipal Drive.
