The Hamilton Southeastern High School athletic department completed the fall portion of the Mudsock Trophy competition with a 61/2-11/2 lead over in-town rival Fishers after sweeping the teams’ cross-country competitions in Tuesday’s Hamilton County meet.

The HSE boys — ranked eighth in the state — finished third behind No. 4 Carmel and No. 6 Noblesville, six points in front of Fishers, which is ranked 10th. On the girls side, Brooke Morgan finished second overall to lead No. 16 Hamilton Southeastern to a fourth-place finish behind No. 1 Carmel, No. 2 Noblesville and No. 13 Westfield. Hamilton Southeastern beat fifth-place Fishers 98-105 for the individual Mudsock.

Hamilton Southeastern, which has won the first two Mudsock competitions, also won individual Mudsocks in girls golf, boys tennis, girls soccer and volleyball; Fishers won in football, and the boys soccer teams tied. The first program to win 10 competitions possesses the Mudsock Trophy. A tie is possible this year, but Hamilton Southeastern athletic director Jim Self said the schools have not determined what would happen in that situation.

“That’s a bridge we’ll cross when we come to it,” he said.
