When you think about Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, warm and fuzzy doesn’t come to mind even though, by the end of the story, Scrooge has had a change of heart. The fact remains, he is a cold and bitter…woman? Bob Rini and the Stage Actors Workshop performance of the classic is a unique offering which casts Lauren Lay as the uptight Elizabeth Scrooge who hates all things to do with Christmas. As she is escorted on her evenig full of spirits and past memories, she learns that Christmas is more than just a day, but a feeling you hold in your heart throughout the year. Still, the story line itself isn’t heartwarming when you take it out of Disney’s venacular. It’s a cold harsh wake up call for us all. Lay’s debut performance on the Indy theatre scene is an accomplished start coupled with some of her fellow actors including Nick Howery who plays Bob Cratchit and Kim Miller who offers a dellightful performance of Aunt Frieda. Many of the cast memebers take on multiple roles for this production but costuming is well put together that as an audience member, you believe you are seeing a bigger cast. This is a wonderful opportunity for the entire family to enjoy the Christmas classic as well as a holiday variety show after the intermission. A Christmas Carol is being held at the Freemason’s Hall on the Corner of North and Illinois Street. Performances run tonight through Dec. 28. For more information, call 317-201-3436
