Don’t get me started. Turns out he’s not really a ghoul at all, just some dude in make-up and a costume.

For those of us from the region (or the Chicagoland area) it was the Son of Svenghoulie. He was our equivalent of Sammy Terry.

Cincinnati’s counterpart of Sammy Terry was “The Cool Ghoul.” But he was encrypted long ago.

Oh yes, I remember Sammy Terry. I can’t think you are nearly old enough to remember him, though.

Pictures are deceiving...I was watching him from behind my covered eyes from the time I was 4 or 5 years old! He STILL scares the crap outta me!

Wasn’t his spider’s name Fred? It was a great time. I think the thr show ws called “Sammy Terry’s Nightmare Theater” Seems like he was a mudic teacher in town and owned a violin shop. Every city had a horror guy or two. Coast to Coast AM actually did a whole show on the genre last month. I podcsted it… no call in for or from Sammy Terry though.

The name of Sammy Terry’s spider was George. Where did you get “Fred”?

his spider's name was "George". i remember his shop, it was down on shadeland avenue, there's some antique places nearby there now. i remember watching his show in the very early 70's, i couldn't have been more than 3 or 4. i have loved horror movies ever since.

Yeah.... it was George... very corny, you could see the string, it was all very cool. I remember watching when I was 10 - 17 years old. Loved the odl classic movies. All the Universal Monsters, I didn't care for the later movies, more o the Corman '70's stuff.

HA, good ol' Sammy Terry. I haven't heard that name in years. You can hardly think of him without thinking of 'Popeye and Janie' or 'Cowboy Bob' on Channel 4. Really telling my age now. I am way behind on this post so I will have to check his website to get an update on his wellbeing. I can't believe he still dresses up. Geooorrrrgggee! and that weird laugh. Those old black and white spokey movies were so creepy and I had mean older brothers who would make the best of it.

Channel 4 Rocked back then, buy then again we didn't have many choices. The wonder years.

I LOVED Sammy Terry…talk about the best Friday nights ever with that goofy spider George and his laugh…it really is sad when you look back at those cheesy graphics, but he is the best and good for him that he is still out and about and making appearances. Isn’t he the guy who also coined the term “finger lickin’ good” for KFC years ago? Seems like I remember him saying that on an interview. I was in his music shop all the time and never knew that that was him…they had the best selection of Sheet music anywhere. Does anyone remember Peggy from the afternoon cartoon shows? what ever happened to her? We see Cowboy Bob and Janie on occasion, but never Peggy. Wonder where she went.

I wish they would bring back re-runs. I was probably 8 or 9 when that was on. My gosh. I would go to my friends house to stay the night and I would cover my eyes but love every minute of it haha. I love horror movies to this day. The scarier the better.

Sammy Terry's alter ego owned a music shop on the east side of Indy. I took piano lessons there. I recognized who he was because he and Sammy Terry had the same tone of voice AND that mole on the chin. I miss how channel 4 used to be back in the day.

In Cleveland in the mid ‘60s, the Sammy Terry analogue was named Ghoulardi, played by local DJ Ernie Anderson. Anderson went on to do the voiceovers for ABC in the ’70s, as well as the "On the next ’Star Trek: The Next Generation’…" during the show’s first few years.

Oh, and he fathered Paul Thomas Anderson.

Didn’t Sammy Terry retire when you were, like, 5?
