Whether in food, fashion or design, there is no shortage of reality-contest shows that promise to discover the "next stars," particularly in the lighter-TV summer months. And we do love these shows; The Next Food Network Star, which chose its winner Aug. 2, reached a record 5.5 million viewers (Melissa d'Arabian's show, Ten Dollar Dinners, premiered Sunday); and the relocated Project Runway premieres Aug. 20 on Lifetime. But how successful are these competitions at actually bestowing stardom and success? USA TODAY tracked back through past winners of several popular shows; here's a selection:
