RE: Robbing the Bank @ Art Bank - July 3, 6pm-9pm - Dillinger Theme
The 5th installment of the “Robbing the Bank” series at the Art Bank was July 3rd during First Friday on Mass. Ave. Hundreds of art and music fans came by to enjoy the Luke Austin Daugherty Jam Band and the art of Carmen Hurt, Morris Kurz, and many other visual artists. We had lots of art being created…Don Harris on the pottery wheel, Jenna Mishelow painting re-purposed interior car parts, Albert Paul Spaulding Jr. doing pencil drawings…and many others.
Luke’s jam band started with 3 (Luke Austin Daugherty on vocals/guitar/harmonica, Josiah Brewer on Djimbe, Brian Borders on drum kit) and ended with 6 musicians…a sax player (Guy), a bass guitarist (Andre’ Quarles) and a RAP Emcee (Albert Paul Spaulding Jr.) joined in for some songs throughout the night. This was an amazing fusion of folk, rock, soul and RAP…it was captivating!
The Dillinger theme came out in many ways with the new book “Banking with Dillinger” being released that night and Carol Sissom, the author being there for the book signing. Three of Dillinger’s relatives (Mike Thompson + son, Jeff Scalf) talked to the patrons about their uncle, John Dillinger.
Great sponsors helped round out the night…NUVO with great coverage of the event, Creation Cafe’ with tasty food, Mallow Run Winery with a cross-section of their wine selection….and wonderful photos by fotosbycheri. Go to Facebook under the “Robbing the Bank” group page for the photos from the night.
Join us at the Art Bank for the “Robbing the Bank” #6 on Sept. 4th, 2009!
