Purdue expert: Gas on rise, but won't top $3
Gas prices in Indiana have been escalating for the past month, but unlike last summer there is a limit to the rise, says a Purdue University expert.
That’s likely good news for Hoosier motorists, who have seen average prices climb 40 cents in the past month – including a 15- to 20-cent jump at some pumps in central Indiana earlier this week, to $2.45 per gallon for the cheapest grade of unleaded, heading into Memorial Day weekend.
PUMP PATROL:Lowest gas prices in the Indy area.
Purdue Professor Wally Tyner, who specializes in energy production and policy, today predicted that prices this summer will go no higher than the $2.80 to $3 range, “and not come near the $4 seen last year.”
The statewide average of $2.40 today is $1.37 cheaper than at this point a year ago.
