Publication's name changes reflect area's evolution
W hat to name the baby? For any expectant parent, the question is an exciting and often time-consuming one.
And for the child, it’s sometimes cause for second-guessing.
Next week, you’ll notice a new name — The Johnson County Star — on the cover of this community newspaper as well as its companion Web site.
The name change reflects the growing population of our communities and The Indianapolis Star’s efforts to serve them.
For nearly 14 years, we’ve been publishing community editions of The Star in Johnson County.
For those of you with good memories, you can probably recall a few of the names we’ve given it: Metro South, Star South, Johnson County A.M.
A couple of years ago, we opted for a name — The Greenwood Star — that reflected our focus on that fast-growing community.
But in and around Greenwood, our communities go by a number of different names.
The Greenwood area is served by three school systems: Greenwood, Clark-Pleasant and Center Grove.
Some of the area’s fastest-growing communities are outside the Greenwood city limits, especially in White River Township and the Bargersville area.
As the city of Greenwood begins looking at the option of annexing some of those areas, the question has arisen: Should the city consider a change of name to reflect its new composition?
The answer to the last question appears to be “no.” By any size and even with expanded borders, the city’s name likely will stick.
But for our Johnson County edition of The Star, we’ll opt for a new name that better reflects our audience.
We hope you’ll look to The Johnson County Star and its online counterpart, JohnsonCountyStar .com, as your first stop for news and information about your schools, churches, businesses and communities — Greenwood, Whiteland, Bargersville, Franklin, Edinburgh and all points in between.
And don’t forget that you can always share your own news and photos from Johnson County. Just look for the “News From You” window on our home page at Johnson CountyStar.com.
