A convicted child molester accused of improperly registering as a sex offender was arrested Friday.

Danny R. Martin, 30, was held at the Marion County Jail on $30,000 bond. Martin was convicted in Marion County in 2000, according to the sheriff’s sex offender registry.

Authorities began investigating Martin after five girls ages 10 to 15 told police a man with several tattoos was following and leering at them Wednesday in the Dollar General Store in the 8700 block of Southeastern Avenue.

When the girls left the store, according to police reports, the suspect drove up and asked them to get in his green sedan. The girls and their parents later found a picture matching the man’s description on a sex- offender registry Web site and notified police.

After an investigation, police determined Martin had registered March 12 but failed to provide information about a MySpace account, e-mail addresses and Internet user names, said Mario Massillamany, spokesman for Prosecutor Carl Brizzi. Martin faces four felony counts of failure to register as a sex offender.
