BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Police are investigating gunshots in a parking lot across the street from the Indiana University Memorial Union.

IU Police Capt. Jerry L. Minger says officers originally responded to a reported fight at a dance in the building’s Alumni Hall shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. He says other officers who were directing traffic heard gunfire as about 600 people were leaving the dance, and they found five 9 mm shell casings and two .45-caliber casings in the parking lot.

Minger says there were no injuries and no damage to property and the university’s Emergency Notification System was not implemented because the incident was “short-lived and nothing indicated that the community should be immediately notified.”

He says there are no immediate suspects.
