Reggie Wayne is one of numerous Indianapolis Colts eager to pitch in and promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month today at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The veteran wide receiver lost an aunt to breast cancer in 1987. The cause is worthy. It’s the pink Wayne isn’t crazy about.

“I’m not too good with pink,” he said. “It would be great to have a different color.”

Not today. Color preferences aside, pink is in vogue and figures to be more pronounced for some players than others.

Players have the option of wearing pink wristbands during the game and blue caps with a pink bill on the sideline. The patches worn by the Colts’ co-captains will be pink.

Another option: pink shoes, or shoes with pink trim.

Rookie punter Pat McAfee wore bright pink shoes during practice and will do so today.

“My grandma passed away from breast cancer,” he said. “If there’s anything I can do to help the cause, I’m more than willing to do it.”

Running back Joseph Addai plans on wearing white shoes with pink trim. Center Jeff Saturday and quarterback Peyton Manning tried out black shoes with pink trim. A pair of black shoes with pink trim sat by Wayne’s cubicle.

Manning, whose mother-in-law has successfully dealt with breast cancer, isn’t certain he’ll wear the pink-trimmed shoes, which he tried out for the first time in Friday’s practice.

“I’m all for the cause,” he said. “But I’ve got to be comfortable with what I’m wearing.”

Coach Jim Caldwell will wear one of the customized hats. His mother-in-law is a breast cancer survivor.

“It is a very, very important cause,” he said.

The Colts Women’s Organization will be selling breast cancer T-shirts for $20 before the game. They’ll be available beginning at 10 a.m., and as long as supplies last outside the southeast corner of the stadium. All proceeds benefit the IU Simon Cancer Center.
