I would like to know what everyone would like to see in a local Indianapolis photography group.

Please leave any suggestions. Even if you are not a member. What would get you to join a photography group?

A good start would be showing off some photos.

We have some fantastic photographers here in Indy and this group would be a great spot for folks to show their stuff.

  1. Tips on how to market photos.
  2. Getting the picture right when you snap the shutter rather than later manipulation.

Ok off topic here .. I just uploaded a few pics .. somehow got duplicates and I can’t remove them. Help anyone?

As far as what I would like to see with this ..

Photographers helping to inspire other photographers out there. Sharing ideas .. maybe a few contests along the way. I would like to see real meet ups with other photographers but not seminars to sell you something.

I would love to see contests for amatuer photographers.

Gambino, if you have not figured this out just yet. (sorry for the slow reply) To remove photos, sign in, go to your profile, click photos, click manage photos, that gives you a layout with the option to delete.

Thanks for you post.

Here is a article that I found. It has a couple great ideas on how to market yourself and your photography.

Caution: the paragraph suggesting the playgrounds, is a very touchy subject in todays society. Thanks to the cooky “freaks,” anyone with a telephoto lens is a suspicious character.

Dog parks are great!! who doesn’t want pictures of their pooch?

Indy.com has provides a great way to market your photos. I suggest only post low quality versions due to the T&A. / Intellectual Property Rights

To answer a couple of questions and add a couple comments.

The group is designed for people who enjoy photography. In the group I have on meetup, (which I am transferring to indy.com) we would have monthly assignments that would have a general topic and the photographer could shoot their interpretation of that topic.
example: Topic: Motion Photographer1, shot their dog running and Phtotgrapher2 shot a time lapse of traffic.

The suggestion of contests has been brought up. I am not a fan of contests. I think that if you have a photo that “you” are fond of, then it is a winner. Who is someone else to tell you that it is not? On the other hand… constructive criticism (when asked for) can be very beneficial.

My current group on meetup has a wide variety of experience behind the camera. The level of intimidation is very low. Everyone with experience is very helpful to the beginners. That was and still is my focus of the group.

Structure has been brought up as-well.
Our current structure is…

  • Greetings
  • Review assignment photos
  • Q&A’s
  • General conversation and sometimes a few people go shoot.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. We are looking for all the help we can get with this group.
