A Fishers landmark is moving across Allisonville Road.

The original Sahm’s restaurant, on the southwest corner of 116th Street and Allisonville Road, will move across the street to the CVS just south of the restaurant. CVS will lease Sahm’s property and demolish the restaurant to build a new store, owner Ed Sahm said.

Sahm’s, which has been open for 23 years, will move into the CVS in January and will share space with the store until the new CVS opens in May. Then Sahm’s will take over the remaining space.Sahm’s also has locations in Indianapolis, Pendleton and the south side of Fishers, and plans to open a restaurant in Mt. Comfort next year.Sahm agreed to the 25-year lease deal with CVS to give the restaurant some financial stability, but he wouldn’t divulge the terms of the lease. The flagship location’s revenue is down 7 percent since last July, but it’s still doing better than the industry’s average loss of 15 to 20 percent, Sahm said. Profits at some of the Sahm family’s other restaurants, such as The Roost, are up, he said. The restaurant still is viable, but it sits on valuable commercial property and the lease will ensure that Sahm’s can continue business without raising prices or cutting staff and portions, Sahm said. The new facility also will give the restaurant about 4,000 square feet more space. The restaurant will expand its banquet center to accommodate 250 people so it can host larger events, such as wedding receptions. The bar is the only part of the restaurant that will shrink, Sahm said.Though Sahm admits the transition could be tough for some who have grown attached to the restaurant, including him, he is happy the restaurant is positioning itself to be in the area for a long time.“Fishers has grown up with us,” Sahm said, “so there was no way we were going to leave.”
