One of the greatest stories ever told
I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t like “To Kill a Mockingbird”. Whether your first experience with the story was with the Academy Award winning movie or reading the book as a school requirement, I recommend that anyone who has a love of the theatre, go and see IRT’s production as it is as top notch as it gets.
The story is about an Alabama attorney, Atticus Finch, a widower raising his two children during the depression. Mark Goetzinger plays the iconic role of the decent attorney willing to do the unthinkable in 1930’s Alabama: defend a black man on a rape charge…a rape, I must note, that he could not have committed.
I loved this show in the same way any person who loved the book or movie would. It was clear that the actors wanted to remain true to the classic roles and had a deep respect for the parts they were playing…an important point in a show of this caliber. Told through the eyes of tomboy Scout, the story brilliantly introduces Finch’s children to the indecency of the world and the importance of doing the right thing, no matter what.
With the economy shrinking our discretionary dollar left and right, attending IRT’s “Mockingbird” in my opinion, is a buck well spent.
