Officials reroute bus traffic at Spring Mill
A month after a 10-year-old boy was fatally hit by a school bus, Spring Mill Elementary School will change traffic patterns in its parking lots, officials said today.
The changes at the Washington Township school are in response to the accident that killed student Christopher Beltz, 10, when he was struck by a bus in the school parking lot Feb. 6.
In the school’s north parking lot, Christopher left his school bus and ran through a row of parked cars and into the path of another bus. Parents dropped their students off in the smaller east lot of the school.
Starting Monday, the east lot will be closed to all traffic but buses. Parents who drop students off will drive in a one-way pattern in the larger north lot and drop students off from the passenger side of vehicles next to the school building.
The school is sending a letter home with parents today addressing the changes.
