Lafayette — The skeletal remains found in a wooded area behind the West Lafayette wastewater treatment plant in April were identified Tuesday as those of a former Jasper County man.

Martin Avolt, Tippecanoe County coroner, said the skeleton that mushroom hunters found was that of John M. Chandler, 57, Wheatfield.

Avolt said Chandler had been dead one to two years. Police said Chandler was homeless at the time of his death and there was no indication of foul play.
