Off with their heads

The story of Alice and Wonderland is complicated enough without giving it a modern retelling. I’m not saying that the YAT performers were nowt enthusiastic about their roles and didn’t give an eagar performance down at the Central Library today, but couple a new translation of a known acid-trip of a story and it was confusing to say the least.

I was with children who constantly had to ask “what is going on?” Granted, they are only familiar with Disney’s version of the story and this script was based on Lewis Carrol’s original book, but with a strange cacophany of costumes it was a little difficult to tell which character was which. Several of the female actors seemed determined to play with their hair throughout the production, but all in all, I have to say that the scene changes went ver smoothly, considering that the cast was in a new place and the number of cast members in the show.

I also have to say that I enjoyed the “MC Turtle’s” performance as well as her resemblence to Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Her characterization was dead on.

I encourage everyone to check out YATs performance tomorrow at the library where they reprise “Sleeping Beauty.” Free family fun for a Sunday.
