OK - So I won thses ticks to see the Naptown Roller Girls. That's right, Roller Derby! I have never been. Couldn't find anyone else who had been. Called a couple friends and the wife and we headed out to do it up.

I'm not sure what I expected, but this whole shebang was pretty cool. Not at all what I thought it would be.. First of all, the turn out was pretty good and, apparently, the Tornado Sirens have quite a following. Lots of people there. Mostly families - lots of kids too. But more than that, the overall demographic was W - I - D - E. Attendees included the expected, and the unexpected. We waded through the tattooed, punked, Rat-Rod type crowd and found a seat in the raised bleachers next to - Grandma. That's right, had to be at least 75. Sitting there with her family, enjoying the show. I half expected to see her drag out her knitting!?

We watched for awhile, trying to figure out the rules. Just as we were starting to figure things out, intermission. Out come the belly dancers. YUP, belly dancers. Added a whole new dimension to the spectacle. Let's just say that while they were enthusiastic and talented, they were obviously BIG fans of Dolly Madison. Hey, props to them for getting out there and shaking it up! Definitely wouldn't catch me out there in front of 1,000 people like that! GO Belly Belly! You Rock!

The skating was good too! Lots of girl on girl crashin and bangin! The Tornado Sirens even won!

In summary, if you are looking for a family friendly, albeit off the wall, place to go do something out of the ordinary, the Naptown Roller Girls is a very entertaining way to kill a couple of hours. Hey, if you really get into it, there is even an after party!
